Sources & Methodology
Where Tomorrow answers one question: “Where will it still be pleasant and liveable in 20 years?” Our scoring model combines historical data with recognised projections, so you can see how a region is expected to change — not just how it was. Evidence. Not opinions.
From raw data to a score on the map
1Historical base
Climate normals, prices and indicators of today form the starting point for every region.
2Projection scenarios
Recognised climate scenarios (SSP / CMIP6) plus population and economic forecasts extend each indicator to 2035 and 2050.
3Weight & score
Indicators are normalised into a weightable 0–100 score per area (10×10 km raster and NUTS region), combined according to your Priority Mixer settings.
4Time slider
View each area for today, 2035 or 2050 — under an optimistic or pessimistic scenario.
Your Priority Mixer settings act as the weights: a dimension marked Critical counts four times as much as one marked Low, and dimensions marked Not important are excluded entirely. The match score is the weighted average of the normalised dimension scores.
Eleven data domains, reliable public sources
The MVP ships with five core domains (climate, cost, property, safety, healthcare); the rest follow. Largely public, licensed for reuse, and named on every data point.
| Domain | Example indicators | Source(s) |
|---|---|---|
| Climate & weather | Temperature, sun, rainfall, heatwaves | Copernicus C3S, EURO-CORDEX, CMIP6 |
| Natural hazards | Wildfire, flooding, heat stress | Global Fire Weather Index, GFED, EEA |
| Water & drought | Water stress, drought duration | WRI Aqueduct, FAO Aquastat |
| Property | House price index, buy/rent | Eurostat HPI/OOHPI, land registries |
| Cost of living | Price level, groceries, purchasing power | Eurostat HICP, Numbeo, Expatistan |
| Healthcare & amenities | Hospital access, beds per 100k | Eurostat (NUTS), WHO HFA-DB |
| Safety & stability | Crime, political stability | Eurostat, Global Peace Index, WGI |
| Economy & taxes | Regional GDP, jobs, tax burden | Eurostat, OECD Tax Database |
| Education | School performance, provision | PISA (OECD), Eurostat education |
| Demographics | Age structure, population forecast | Eurostat EUROPOP |
| Lifestyle & POI | Ski, surf, hiking, culture, cuisine | OpenStreetMap, GeoNames |
Transparent and built together
Traceable scores — no black box
Every score links back to the underlying source and its date. If we can't source it, we don't show it.
Date everything
An undated number is worse than a missing number. Each metric carries the date it was last verified.
Show uncertainty
Projections are shown as ranges under recognised scenarios (IPCC / CMIP6), never as false precision.
Community-checked
Users can propose new data sources; we review and integrate them. Methodology changes are versioned and public.
